Description

Cape May Point Lighthouse, Cape May, N.J. The present lighthouse, erected in 1859, stands 170 feet tall in Cape may Point Lighthouses State Park. Originally built in 1744, rebuilt in 1823, this lighthouse is one of the oldest still in use by the United States Coast Guard. The beacon, visible for 19 miles, was converted from oil-burning lamps to electric in the 1920's.
