Description

A Thomas Nast reproduction drawing on the theme of Christmas depicting nursery rhyme vignettes as well as vignettes of the United States military throughout. In the center of the lower portion of this illustration Nast depicted Santa Claus with his sleigh and reindeer ready to deliver his large sack of gifts. The gifts that Santa Claus is set to deliver show the patriotic theme of the United States flag and a drum and bugle that would have been used by the military. You can see one drum on his back and one more among the presents in his sleigh.

Title printed under image reads "The Same Old Christmas Story Over Again."

Thomas Nast (American (born Germany), 1840–1902) conceived and introduced our modern image of Santa Claus. Combining European traditions of St. Nicholas with folk images of elves from his native Germany, he created the jolly gift-giver now associated with Christmas.

The Christmas Drawings of Thomas Nast, compiled by William Glover with a foreword by Norman Rockwell. The entire portfolio contains 30 reproductions.
